organizer & membership coordinator

We are seeking an experienced  Community Organizer and Membership Coordinator with a passion to organize Filipino migrant workers in New York City, and to  empower them to fight for  workers’ and immigrants’ rights. This position aims to  help build our  membership base and develop social justice leaders. This position has two integral components: First, as a Community  Organizer, who works collaboratively with other team members to pursue Damayan’s mission and accomplish program goals and deliverables. Second, as a Membership Coordinator, who is mainly responsible for membership recruitment, engagement, retention, political education and workers leadership development.


WHAT YOU’LL DO

Organizing:

  • Base building. Creates strategies and plans with the Program Director and the Executive Director, and leads and coordinates the membership recruitment, engagement and expansion program.

  • Supervises the community outreach worker and other worker volunteers and coordinates their collective work to outreach, recruit, and mobilize members to attend membership and community  events.

  • Work closely with the case manager and other team members to mobilize members and workers to virtual or in-person  Know Your Rights training, legal clinics, social services, and political education sessions.

  • Workers Leadership Development. Work closely with the Program Director in ensuring the political education of members and in organizing the Workers Academy. Develop members and survivors into social justice leaders.

  • Ensures the accomplishment of related grant deliverables and writing of grant reports.


Membership Coordination

  • Work closely with the Database Manager to record, update and  maintain the membership database at Powerbase. 

  • Work with the finance staff to collect, record and update  membership and ID fees and donations. Help develop “sustainers” from the membership.

  • Print and coordinate the issuance of member ID’s. Organize and ensure the safety and confidentiality of members’ data.

OTHER EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

  • Full-time, 40 hours a week position

  • In-person employment arrangement at our office

  • Salary range: $41,000-45,000, commensurate to experience
