Damayan empowers low-wage workers to fight for their labor, health, gender, and immigrant rights. Established in 2002, our purpose is to build leadership at the grassroots level to eliminate labor trafficking, fight labor fraud and wage theft, and to demand fair labor standards to achieve economic and social justice.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Damayan´s highest policy-making body is the General Assembly (GA). Convened annually, it is composed of the dues-paying and voting members of the organization. It is responsible for approving the program for the coming year and elects the Board of Directors (BOD).
In between assemblies, the BOD leads the planning and implementation of the organization’s programs and campaigns. It consists of nine dedicated Filipina domestic worker leaders, and meets every other month.
In between BOD meetings, the Secretariat guides the day-to-day work of the organization along with the Damayan staff members. The Chair, Secretary and Treasurer constitute the Secretariat.
Damayan’s staff is composed of full-time and part-time organizers who are responsible for implementing the programs, campaigns and other operations of the organization on a day-to-day basis. They work closely with, report to, and are directly accountable to the Board of Directors (BOD) and the Secretariat. Some BOD members also serve as Damayan staff members.
