Damayan Attends “A Rededication to Justice: Answering Dr. Martin Luther King’s Call.”
On January 15, during Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Damayan, along with partners (@1199seiu, @aafederation, @hispanic_federation, @the.aaany, @thenyic, @mcnny, @newyorkstateag, @dc37nyc), attended “A Rededication to Justice: Answering Dr. Martin Luther King’s Call.”
Damayan’s Executive Director, Riya Ortiz, shared her story as the daughter of a domestic worker and as an immigrant from the Philippines. She spoke about the challenges our community continues to face today, including ongoing ICE raids, the soaring cost of living, and unsafe working conditions.
As we honor Dr. King’s legacy, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting immigrant and workers’ rights, ensuring that every worker, regardless of status, can live and labor with dignity, safety, and justice. His vision for equality continues to guide our movement forward. #MLKDay
