12 Empowered Filipino Workers Received Free Consultations During Our Damayan April Legal Clinic

“[The legal clinic] answered my questions, and they made it clear what I needed to know about my case and they gave me advice on what I need to do. They are really helpful.”- Ate Elizabeth, Damayan Member

During our April 20 Legal Clinic at the People’s Forum, twelve Filipino migrant workers received a free consultation with guest attorneys from the Catholic Migration Services (CMS). Our dedicated Damayan youth intern and son of a Filipino trafficking survivor, John, gave a comprehensive guideline presentation on how to safely communicate with ICE and information about workplace discrimination and immigration fraud. With the unwavering support of the Mayor’s Office of Immigration Affairs (MOIA), Damayan will continue to provide Know Your Rights trainings, ensuring our Filipino migrant workers are well-equipped, especially in these changing political times.

Our member Ate Maria sought clarification from our CMS attorney and enhanced her knowledge about labor rights in NYC. She is also one of our proud Damayan WeRise Nanny Training graduates. Altogether, she gained invaluable skills from our Damayan events and is now in a better position to elevate her standards in the labor industry as a nanny.

Our core mission is to organize our Filipino migrant workers while providing critical services in the form of legal assistance, KYR trainings, and health to serve our community's immediate needs. Join our outdoor Free Health Screening on Saturday, May 11, from 10-2pm in front of Amazing Grace (69 St and Roosevelt Ave)!
