Diplomats trafficking migrant domestic workers are protected by diplomatic immunity, which shields them from prosecution, allowing this form of exploitation to continue. Although the United States has prosecuted diplomats for such abuse, such prosecution is rare. Damayan persists in pushing against this injustice, tackling trafficking cases both legally and through organizing.
In 2018, Damayan organized the Justice for Edith and Sherile Campaign in support of Edith Mendoza and Sherile Pahagas, two Filipino domestic workers trafficked by German diplomat Pit Koehler. Through the campaign, Edith and Sherile demanded that their trafficker pay their stolen wages, give a public apology, and not mistreat workers again.
