Alongside the struggle for expanded protections and bills of rights for domestic workers, NDWA began to address the problem of labor trafficking among domestic workers, building upon the successes of Damayan’s Baklas campaign. The labor trafficking campaign addressed the most extreme cases of worker exploitation and abuse.
In 2013, Damayan was one of the three anchor organizations that founded “Beyond Survival,” the anti-trafficking campaign of the National Domestic Workers Alliance. The campaign aimed to amplify the voices and develop the leadership of trafficked women domestic workers, draw national attention to labor trafficking across the US, and call for solutions and resources to address trafficking.
“So Damayan, we were the organization that really got anti-trafficking work and the domestic worker diplomat issue, all that stuff. NDWA launched Beyond Survival and Damayan became the anchor organization for the NDWA campaign."
