As grassroots domestic worker organizing expanded on the local level and resulted in important victories, organizers began to see the value of national collaboration and coordination of efforts to both strengthen local efforts and to formulate a national strategy.

In 2007, Damayan was one of thirteen domestic workers organizations that co-founded the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) in Atlanta, Georgia. NDWA mobilized domestic workers from around the country, building solidarity across regions, helping forge a national agenda for labor rights and protections, and pushing for state bills of rights.
