The COVID-19 pandemic has caused devastation to the low wage working class Filipino community. Between July and September, 2020 we surveyed 324 community members to assess the damage. 8/10 reported job loss due to the pandemic and 7/10 reported an inability to afford food and groceries. Each day, the working class Filipino migrant and immigrant community in New York and New Jersey struggle to fulfill their basic needs. Daily decisions have become catch 22s, deciding between rent, food, school fees, health, childcare, and remittances. Many community members are behind on their rent, accruing fees, because they are choosing to pay for things like food and medicine.
