Damayang Manggagawa (Damayan Workers)
As a grassroots organization of Filipino low wage workers and its families that is working for reforms and systemic change, Damayan puts primary importance to the recruitment and retention of its migrant worker members. We accept membership from any low wage worker of Filipino descent while focusing on the recruitment of Filipino women domestic workers. Orientation and agreement with the mission, programs and overall work of Damayan is required for membership.
Damayan has a high rate of member retention because of our programs that respond to their needs such as helping workers retrieve stolen wages, get immediate health services or referrals, or access help in cases of domestic violence or immigration arrests or detention. Members have the opportunity to exercise leadership and hold their leaders accountable through its annual General Assembly. Members also have the power to choose their leaders through election by secret ballot.
