Tagsibol was an uplifting experience for all of us at Damayan. Last Friday, November 22 at the Christ Church United Methodist, with over 150 of our members and allies, we dedicated the evening to Typhoon Yolanda victims, sharing in a prayer and moment of silence. So much support and solidarity in one room was powerful beyond words.
We watched a brilliant performance by our cultural collective Sining Pandayan - a theater piece featuring our members dramatizing migration, trafficking and rising up. We head-bopped to progressive rock by our new Sining Pandayan band, and danced through the afterparty to live bossanova by the Austria family.
Amidst the busyness of typhoon relief, day-to-day organizing, fundraising and the upcoming holiday, Tagsibol gave us the opportunity to pause and honor three of our allies: the Anti-Trafficking Program of Safe Horizon; the Community Development Project of the Urban Justice Center; and Karen Prudente of United Methodist Women. We were so happy to honor them, and look forward to our continuing work together.
